Lake Ice Update
NEW VIDEO ICE UPDATE, check it out on our Facebook page, Facebook.com/SummersideResidentsAssociation/
Skates? Winter gear? Ice rink open?
A reminder that the Pleasure Rink is officially OPEN as of today, December 1st 2020!
The park hours are as follows: Monday – Sunday 10 am – 10 pm.
These hours are subject to change at any time. The rink hours are as follows: Monday – Sunday 11 am – 9 pm.
Because of the warm weather, our staff will need extra time in the late evenings and early mornings for ice upkeep. During any days where temperatures are above 0 degrees, restrictions could be in place on rink use to keep our surfaces in the best condition possible.
For the current status of the rinks please call the Gatehouse at 780-756-6772.
Before visiting, please be aware of all guidelines set into place at the SSRA due to the recent restrictions. Check out the full update here: bit.ly/SSRAupdate.
Remember that the pleasure rink is only open for skating and a 20-person MAX. capacity has been set into place. Hockey pucks and sticks are not allowed. Our land based hockey rink is getting closer to being ready – so stay tuned for an update on the official opening date.
As for an update for the lake ice, today we found approximately 7-8” of ice depth in various areas around the lake. This indicates that the ice is currently at a safe depth for lake use and fishing to occur!
Please note that those measurements are a snapshot in time. Ice safety can change rapidly and the risk of ice weakness increases during warmer temperatures, therefore please use extreme caution if you chose to go onto the lake at this time.
We will continue to monitor and measure ice depth and communicate any updates. Be sure to look out for any large cracks and water on ice surfaces and contact us immediately if you see these concerns.
When ice fishing we recommend checking the depth of all augured holes. Please leave the ice immediately and inform the SSRA staff holes are not a minimum of 6 inches.
Don’t forget to follow our rules and regulations for fishing. If you need a reminder, or have yet to fill out your Acknowledgment Form for this year, please check in at the Gatehouse. Have fun!
