Ice Update March 18, 2022
Hi Summerside!
Hasn’t the weather been beautiful lately? Unfortunately, with the warm temperatures and soft ice conditions, that means we are officially saying goodbye to skating for the season!
SSRA maintained rinks will be closed by the end of today, as we are now unable to properly maintain our rinks to ensure the safety of all users.
Though our most recent ice measurements indicate that the lake ice still remains thick enough for foot traffic and ice fishing – during this time of year the shoreline can retract quickly and the ice thickness can fluctuate rapidly, and vary from location to location in the lake . Therefore, we are changing our flags to YELLOW.
As indicated in the information about our new flag system, which can be found on our website, yellow flags mean the following: Potential elevated risk of using the lake. The lake is open, but please check the SSRA website prior to use for details regarding increased risk, and exercise caution and discretion prior to and/or during use.
If you choose to use the lake at this time, please be sure to exercise extreme caution and judgement at all times. Look out for any large cracks and water on the ice. If you see water seeping, please leave the ice and inform our staff immediately.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office at 780-497-7558 or the gatehouse at 780-756-6772.
